OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,296 head Sept. 20, compared to 4,490 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers were lightly tested and $2 to $3 lower. Demand was moderate as another day of sharply lower cattle futures hampered the market. Cattle on Feed report due out, early estimates are bearish and thighs could have put downward pressure on the board. Steer and heifer calves were $4 to $10 lower than last weeks extremely high market. Calf demand was moderate as many farmers are busy drilling wheat. Quality plain through attractive with several fancy calves included. Feeder cattle in slightly thin to fleshy conditions. Calves in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups average to full. The supply consisted of 48% over 600 pounds, 42% under 600 pounds, 10 cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 41% of the feeder and calf supply. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 high. Slaughter bulls steady. Packer demand moderate to good. A total of 530 cows and bulls sold with 36% going to packers.

Yearlings, 650 to 700 lbs., 118.00 to 122.00; 745 to 800 lbs., 113.00 to 116.00, load 785 lbs., fleshy 112.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 107.75 to 114.75; few 935 to 940 lbs., 105.00 to 106.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, calves, 400 to 450 lbs., 135.00 to 137.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00. Yearlings, 695 lbs., 115.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 111.00 to 115.00; 875 to 900 lbs., 105.00. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 22 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1800 lbs., 48.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 41.50 to 47.50. Boners, 28 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1600 lbs., 49.75 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 40.50 to 45.00. Lean, 71 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1375 lbs., 44.50 to 48.00; high dressing, 48.50; low dressing, 36.50 to 43.50. Lights, 41 head, 75 to 90% lean, 800 to 985 lbs., 42.00 to 43.75; low dressing, 34.00 to 39.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 10 head, 1450 to 2450 lbs., 57.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 65.50; low dressing, 54.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 975 to 1050 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, high black 870.00 to 925.00; 3 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality 725.00 to 790.00; 3 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality 600.00 to 700.00; 4 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, high black 800.00 to 880.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality 540.00 to 650.00; 8 to 10 years old, 950 to 1300 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality 500.00 to 600.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 7 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., with 125- to 225-lb. calves, average quality 730.00 to 850.00.
