Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 14,004 head Sept. 14, compared to 1,931 head last week and 10,546 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs under 70 pounds sold $5 to $10 higher. Feeder lambs over 70 pounds sold $1 to $2 higher. Good and Utility slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 lower while Cull ewes sold $1 higher. Receipts were about 41% feeders, 30% replacement ewes, 13% ewe lambs, 9% slaughter ewes, 4% feeding ewes and the balance was miscellaneous sheep, goats and 3 llamas. Many buyers on hand for the entire sale. Demand good to very good.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 11 head, 136 lbs., 92.75. Good 2 to 3, 169 head, 169 lbs., 31.25.

Slaughter ewes: Good 3 to 4, 73 head, 211 lbs., 27.00. Utility 1 to 2, 236 head, 151 lbs., 33.75. Cull 1, 136 to 140 lbs., 27.00 to 30.75 (30.36).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 41 to 45 lbs., 130.50 to 139.50 (135.89); 51 to 58 lbs., 128.00 to 131.75 (130.54); 62 to 64 lbs., 120.00 to 133.25 (129.57); 74 to 79 lbs., 115.25 to 120.00 (117.20); 73 to 77 lbs., 120.50 to 126.50 (123.19) ewe lambs; 81 to 87 lbs., 110.25 to 114.75 (113.28); 81 to 87 lbs., 119.00 to 125.50 (121.71) ewe lambs; 90 to 98 lbs., 104.25 to 109.75 (107.24); 35 head, 99 lbs., 100.25 fleshy; 101 to 104 lbs., 101.75 to 103.00 (102.25); 13 head, 122 lbs., 92.25 fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 93 head, 43 lbs., 109.00; 16 head, 53 lbs., 122.50; 53 head, 79 lbs., 111.75 to 114.00 (113.62); 34 head, 107 lbs., 96.00. Medium 1 to 2, 23 head, 65 lbs., 117.00; 29 head, 79 lbs., 110.00; 197 head, 84 lbs., 107.50; 10 head, 115 lbs., 93.25 fleshy.

Feeding ewes: 417 head, 123 to 133 lbs., 33.25 to 35.25.

Replacement ewes: Large frame 1 to 2, whiteface, open, price per head, 229 head, yearlings, 147 lbs., 166.00 to 179.00; 577 head, yearlings, 138 to 163 lbs., 147.50 to 162.00; 196 head, yearlings, 124 lbs., 137.50 to 145.00 Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 186 head, 2 to 4 years old, 187 lbs., 150.00; 188 head, 2 to 5 years old, 161 to 175 lbs., 124.00 to 127.50; 198 head, 4 years old, 172 lbs., 107.50 to 112.50; 92 head, 2 to solid, 167 to 173 lbs., 90.00 to 105.00; 73 head, 3 to 5 years old, 174 lbs., 89.00; 108 head, 2 to solid, 168 lbs., 77.50 to 79.00 cross bred ewes; 491 head, 4 to 6 years old, 154 to 173 lbs., 72.50 to 83.00; 35 head, solid, 187 lbs., 71.00; 1370 head, short term, 151 to 165 lbs., 65.00 to 74.00; 97 head, solid to shortsolid, 157 to 175 lbs., 64.00 to 72.00.

Aged bucks: 10 head, fleshy 262 lbs., 26.50.
