Writer from Meade helps make Kansas a destinationAuthor and travel writer, Susen Foster, is joining forces with High Plains Journal and the annual Journal Getaways to showcase the wonders of cultural and agricultural tourism in the Sunflower State. Beginning in October, High Plains Journal will feature a monthly travel column by Foster. The articles will highlight day and overnight trips to the various destinations featured in her upcoming book entitled "Inns & Wineries of America's Heartland." Foster, who currently resides in Meade, Kan., has been in the travel writing business since 1993 when she published the first gift-style book in her Inns & Wineries series. Since then, she has written three other books in the California collection and is currently working on an anthology about the beautiful bed and breakfasts and agricultural attractions of the Midwest and the Great Plains. Her monthly "Destination" column in Oklahoma City's Preview magazine is well known and her articles about such places as historical Cave Creek in Arizona, the amazing Sternberg Museum in Hays, Kan., and Wichita's Museums on the River, can be read in newspapers, magazines and online around the world. Her work can also be seen occasionally in the Dodge City Globe and the Legends magazine. Upon her first visit to southwest Kansas in 2002, Susen Foster says she "fell in love with the beautiful little town of Meade." She was impressed with the trees, the park and the many possibilities that existed along Highway 54. She writes often about the "charming communities of southwest Kansas" and has had published articles about Meade, Ashland, Greensburg, Ulysses, Dodge City, and Liberal. "I want to do my share in getting the word out about the wonders of this corner of the world." Date: 10/24/06
