West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,750 head Oct. 24, compared to 1,850 head last week and 4,788 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, the steer and heifer market was $2 to $5 higher. Several light steers calves under 450 pounds on the start sold $8 to $12 higher, but only briefly. The supply was moderate. Demand was moderate to good, most buyers were fairly selective for quality and condition with the majority of sales toward the upper end of the price range being weaned or at least having 1 to 2 rounds. The supply consisted of 53% steers and 47% heifers, with nearly 37% weighted over 600 pounds.
