Tulsa livestock auction news

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 4,698 head Oct. 23, compared to 2,503 head last week, and 4,466 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, light weight steers were $7 to $12 higher with six weight calves steady to $3 lower. Light weight heifers were $6 to $9 higher with five to six weight heifers steady to $3 lower. Demand was good on better cattle with good attendance of buyers. Weigh-ups were mostly average to full, and fleshy calves dominated the market. Markets were mostly steady on feeders with light test. Receipts were comprised of 46% steers, 40% heifers, 14% bulls, with 20% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls steady with higher yielding cows $3 to $4 higher. A total of 1052 cows and bulls sold with 35% going to packers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 50 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1150 to 1500 lbs., 47.50 to 51.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 43.50 to 47.00. Boners, 82 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1575 lbs., 46.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 54.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 45.50. Lean, 95 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1325 lbs., 44.50 to 48.00; low dressing, 40.50 to 44.00. Light, 68 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 39.00 to 42.50; high dressing, 43.50; low dressing, 34.50 to 38.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 37 head, 1250 to 2050 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.50 to 61.50; low dressing, 50.50 to 54.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, heifers, 850 to 900 lbs., 3 to 4 months bred, high quality black, 780.00 to 840.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1025 to 1050 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, high quality black, 925.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average quality, 670.00 to 800.00.
