St. Onge cattle auction report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 4,853 head Oct. 20, compared to 4,168 head last week and 5,302 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steer calves under 650 pounds sold steady to $3 lower. Heifer calves sold mostly steady. Yearling feeder steers and heifers were not well tested. Demand was good for calves in load lots with both spring and fall shots, moderate for partial loads and smaller packages that lack both shots. Buyers continue to be selective for type and kind while bidding on cattle. Receipts includes 62% steers and 38% heifers, with 15% over 600 pounds.
