Springfield dairy cattle sale

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., Oct. 24, reported receipts of 1,032 head, compared to 1,259 head last special and 1,325 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

This was a special dairy heifer sale. Demand was moderate early in the sale and then was light. The supply was moderate, with nearly 10% springer heifers, 15% bred heifers, 40% open heifers, 5% fresh cows, 6% milking cows, 10% bred and springer cows, and 10% calves. Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices per head.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Supreme, 1725.00 to 1900.00, Jersey individual 1550.00. Approved, 1500.00 to 1710.00, Crossbred individual 1500.00. Medium to 1000.00 to 1400.00, Crossbreds 1200.00 to 1300.00. Common to 635.00 to 950.00.

Heifers: Bred three to six months, Supreme to 1760.00 to 1900.00. Approved, 1585.00 to 1760.00, Crossbreds 1200.00 to 1575.00. Medium to 1075.00 to 1575.00, Crossbreds 840.00 to 1000.00. Common to 600.00 to 1025.00, Crossbreds 510.00 to 680.00. Heifers, bred one to three months. Supreme, 1525.00 to 1650.00. Approved to 1400.00 to 1500.00, Jersey pair 1210.00. Medium to 1000.00 to 1240.00. Common to Crossbreds 510.00 to 750.00.

Open heifers: Approved to 200 to 300 lbs., 540.00 to 720.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 700.00 to 885.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 830.00 to 940.00, Crossbreds 390.00 to 730.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 910.00 to 1040.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 1070.00 to 1160.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 1160.00 to 1280.00. Medium to 300 to 400 lbs., Crossbreds 490.00 to 540.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 500.00 to 760.00; 700 to 800 lbs., few 900.00 to 990.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh cows, Approved to 1125.00 to 1385.00. Medium to 600.00 to 975.00. Common to 520.00 to 700.00.

Milking cows: Approved to 970.00 to 1400.00. Medium to 600.00 to 975.00. Common to 215.00 to 590.00.

Springer cows: Bred seven to nine months, Approved, 1025.00 to 1270.00. Medium to 810.00 to 900.00. Common to 440.00 to 730.00.

Cows: Bred, one to six months, Approved, 1375.00 to 1410.00. Medium to 800.00 to 1000.00. Common to 440.00 to 730.00, Crossbreds 335.00 to 710.00.

Baby calves: Holstein heifers 330.00 to 600.00. Holstein bulls 120.00 to 180.00, small 45.00 to 115.00. Jersey bulls 45.00 to 70.00. Crossbred heifers 140.00 to 310.00.
