Springfield cattle salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,109 head Oct. 25, compared to 2,100 head last week and 3,247 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers at 400 to 650 pounds were $2 to $4 lower, and over 650 pounds were steady on a limited test. Holsteins were steady to $2 lower on a light test, heifers were steady. Demand was moderate to light for steer and bull calves, moderate for heifer calves, supply moderate. Higher corn prices working against calves going into back to grounding lots and feeder cattle. Feeder cattle futures closed on the down side. The feeder supply included 35% steers, 5% Holsteins, 45% heifers, 15% bulls, with 21% over 600 pounds.
