Seven local teens receive prestigious 4-H Key AwardWestern Kansas Janel Durler, Kayla Durler, Erika Eaton, Tanner Rumbaugh, Kelly Schneweis, Dasha Schultz, and Kaylee Simon each received the prestigious 4-H Key Award during the annual 4-H Achievement Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Key Award program is the highest award a 4-Her may attain. It recognizes 4-H members who have an "all around" excellent 4-H record. The aim of this program is to encourage members to develop their leadership potential, set high goals for project work and good citizenship. This award is sponsored by the Farm Credit System. Durler, an 11 year member of the Wright Wonder Workers 4-H Club, is an active Exchange Trip/Ambassador participant in addition to participating in the beef, buymanship, foods, leadership, photography and swine projects. She is a senior at Dodge City High School and is the daughter of Dale and Barbara Durler. Kayla Durler is a 12 year member of the Wright Wonder Workers 4-H Club. She too had been involved with the Exchange Trip/Ambassador group while being active in the photography, buymanship, foods, leadership, beef and swine projects. She has a 4-H photo that was selected to be displayed in Washington during 2007. She is currently a freshman at Ft. Hays State University and is the daughter of Bob and Theresa Durler. Eaton, a 12 year member of the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club, has served in several leadership roles within her club such as president and secretary. Her main projects have involved dog, leadership, photography, sheep and swine. She is a freshman at a Nebraska college and is the daughter of Alan and Kim Eaton. Rumbaugh is a 10 year member of the Richland Boosters 4-H Club and is involved with the Exchange Trip/Ambassador program in addition to serving as 4-H Council treasurer. Woodworking, photography, shooting sports and leadership are some of Rumbaugh's main projects. He is a senior at Dodge City High School and is the son of Jeff and Lisa Rumbaugh. Schneweis, a 10 year member of the Richland Boosters 4-H Club, has served as president of his club in addition to participating in the Exchange Trip/Ambassador program. His main projects have been horticulture, leadership and swine. He is a freshman at Butler Community College and is the son of Mike and Ethel Schneweis. Schultz, an 11 year member of the Wilroads Gardens 4-H Club, is an Exchange Trip/Ambassador participant and active in a variety of livestock projects such as beef, poultry, swine, meat goats and dairy in addition to the leadership project. She is a senior at Dodge City High School and is the daughter of William and Donita Schultz. Simon, a 10 year member of the Wilroads Gardens 4-H Club, is also an Exchange Trip/Ambassador participant in addition to being involved in leadership and several livestock projects including beef, sheep, swine and dairy. She is a junior at Dodge City High School and is the daughter of Steve and Tammie Simon. Date: 10/26/06
