OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,664 head Oct. 25, compared to 4,228 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle were lightly tested. Limited numbers of steers were steady to $2 lower, decline on those under 800 pounds. Feeder heifers were steady with last weeks light trade. Steer calves under 500 pounds were mostly steady, heavier weights were $4 to $6 lower. Heifer calves were $4 to $6 lower. Demand was good for light weight, long-weaned calves moderate at best for others. Best action on those suitable for early Wheat pasture. Many heavier weight calves headed to the feedlot and these are in the face of higher breakevens due to higher corn prices. Quality was plain to average, end attractive calves. Weigh-ups were average to full. Feeder cattle in medium to fleshy conditions, calves in medium to fleshy conditions and many un-weaned. The supply consisted of 38% over 600 pounds, 48% under 600 pounds, 14% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 48% of the feeder and calf supply. Slaughter cows were $2 to $2.50 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate. Many cows selling once again as parts of the state saw their first freeze. Others still feeling the effects of the drought from this past summer and are looking at low supplies of hay and pond water. A total of 660 cows and bulls sold with 36% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 350 to 400 lbs., 144.00 to 159.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 132.00 to 147.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 125.00 to 142.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 116.00 to 129.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 106.00 to 111.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 97.00 to 109.00. Yearlings, few 675 to 700 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00; few 745 to 800 lbs., 107.00 to 109.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 101.00 to 107.75; few lots 900 to 945 lbs., 100.00; 1060 lbs., 95.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 475 lbs., 121.00 to 127.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 104.00 to 117.00; 675 lbs., 106.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 104.50 to 106.50; 800 to 835 lbs., 103.50 to 104.00. Medium and large frame 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 114.00; 575 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00; 625 to 675 lb. calves 93.00 to 96.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 100.00; 835 lbs., 96.50. Holsteins, Large frame 3, 565 lbs., 96.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 81.00 to 85.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 300 to 400 lbs., 114.50 to 126.00; 400 to 450 111.00 to 117.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 104.50 to 110.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 95.00 to 98.50, 580 lbs., thin 103.50; 600 to 625 lbs., 90.00 to 103.00. Yearlings, package, 665 lbs., 102.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 98.50 to 105.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 94.00 to 99.00; 935 lbs., 95.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, calves, 425 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.50 to 106.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 92.50 to 100.00. Yearlings, 640 lbs., 106.50; few 750 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 99.00. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 94.00 to 100.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 90.00 to 103.00; 675 to 700 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00; 765 lbs., 92.00; 825 to 900 lbs., 92.50 to 94.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 45 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1650 lbs., 44.25 to 47.00; high dressing, 47.50 to 52.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50. Boners, 67 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1075 to 1550 lbs., 44.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 47.50 to 53.00; low dressing, 41.00 to 43.50. Lean, 60 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1475 lbs., 43.50 to 45.50; high dressing, 47.50; low dressing, 37.00 to 42.50. Lights, 45 head, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1025 lbs., 33.00 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1450 to 2075 lbs., 56.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 63.50; low dressing, 53.50 to 56.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 950 to 1000 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, high quality black, 1000.00; 3 to 7 years old, 975 to 1375 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 700.00 to 800.00; 6 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, average quality, 600.00 to 700.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 500.00 to 550.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., with 175- to 275-lb. calves, average quality black, 980.00 to 1000.00; 7 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., with 150- to 350-lb. calves, average quality, 850.00 to 950.00.
