Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,346 head Oct. 19, compared to 3,703 head last week and 4,083 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold $2 to $5 lower. Slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 lower. Receipts were about 62% feeder, 17% replacement ewes, 20% slaughter ewes, with the balance bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Demand was moderate.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 162 to 165 lbs., 31.00 to 31.50 (31.46). Good 3 to 4, 88 head, 213 lbs., 22.50. Utility 1 to 2, 336 head, 147 lbs., 29.75. Cull 1, 315 head, 131 lbs., 19.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 77 head, 42 lbs., 119.50; 50 to 55 lbs., 117.25 to 122.75 (121.65); 60 to 68 lbs., 116.00 to 120.75 (119.16); 70 to 79 lbs., 107.50 to 116.00 (113.40); 96 head, 72 lbs., 120.00 ewe lambs; 83 to 86 lbs., 105.50 to 106.50 (106.14); 42 head, 89 lbs., 98.00 buck lambs; 35 head, 83 lbs., 101.00 burry; 90 to 95 lbs., 99.50 to 103.00 (101.74); 54 head, 92 lbs., 92.75 black face; 31 head, 95 lbs., 96.00 buck lambs; 19 head, 102 lbs., 90.25 burry; 12 head, 108 lbs., 101.00 ewe lambs; 10 head, 112 lbs., 89.50; 29 head, 132 lbs., 88.00 fleshy. Medium frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 57 lbs., 113.00; 23 head, 101 lbs., 94.25.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, white face, open, price per head, 19 head, 1 years old, 131 lbs., 117.50; 635 head, 5 to 7 years old, 144 to 162 lbs., 63.00 to 75.00; 69 head, short term, 139 lbs., 51.00. Large frame 1, white face, open, price per head, 84 head, 2 to 5 years old, 173 to 185 lbs., 80.00 to 87.00; 43 head, 1 to 5 years old, 184 lbs., 74.00 fleshy. Large frame 1, black face, open, price per head, 28 head, 1 to 6 years old, 178 lbs., 71.00.

Feeder ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 340 head, 140 lbs., 32.00 medium flesh.

Aged bucks: 10 head, 229 lbs., 24.25 fleshy.
