National Western livestock manager resigns

Longtime National Western livestock manager James Goodrich will resign following the 2007 National Western Stock Show in January. Goodrich has served as the show's livestock manager for 15 years.

Prior to serving as the livestock manager, Goodrich was the National Western's yards manager for nine years. During his tenure, Goodrich has seen many changes, including the addition of several species of alternative livestock, including llamas, goats, yak, bison and dogs, and the rapid growth of the junior livestock show.

His main responsibilities in managing the livestock department included scheduling, serving as a liaison with breed associations and participating in committee meetings and professional show managers' organizations. Goodrich's duties also included overseeing the Catch-A-Calf contest and the entry process from processing to payout, managing superintendents and seasonal help, hiring judges, negotiating contracts, establishing program guidelines and procedures and implementing animal care and use policies.

"Working at the National Western has given me the opportunity to meet more people and go more places than I ever imagined I would have coming from Garrett, Wyo.," Goodrich said. "However, the National Western's livestock department needs someone who can serve the position on a full-time basis, and I need to devote more time to my cattle operation at home."

"James has been an asset to our organization for many years and has done a wonderful job," National Western president and CEO Pat Grant said. "We're sorry to lose him."

Goodrich's departure leaves an opening in National Western's management team. If you are an outgoing, energetic leader who has a background in the livestock industry and a bachelor's degree in animal science or a related agricultural degree, and you would like to apply for the livestock manager's position, please send your resume and cover letter to National Western Executive Livestock Committee, c/o Pat Grant, 4655 Humboldt Street, Denver, CO 80216, or e-mail it to hr@nationalwestern.com.
