McAlester cattle auction reportThe McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,250 head Oct. 24, compared to 1,800 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, stocker cattle were steady to $2 higher. Feeder cattle not well tested, but mostly steady on better offerings. Abundance of soft, fleshy calves in trade. Good attendance of buyers and active on better offerings, moderate on balance. Quality was plain to average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts were comprised of 52% steers, 40% heifers with only 13% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls steady with last week. Good attendance of buyers. Moderate interest in long bred cows. No test on pairs. A total of 415 cows and bulls sold with 45% to packers.
