McAlester cattle auction report

The McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,250 head Oct. 24, compared to 1,800 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker cattle were steady to $2 higher. Feeder cattle not well tested, but mostly steady on better offerings. Abundance of soft, fleshy calves in trade. Good attendance of buyers and active on better offerings, moderate on balance. Quality was plain to average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts were comprised of 52% steers, 40% heifers with only 13% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls steady with last week. Good attendance of buyers. Moderate interest in long bred cows. No test on pairs. A total of 415 cows and bulls sold with 45% to packers.

Boners, 40 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1030 to 1590 lbs., 48.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 43.50 to 47.50. Lean, 45 head, 85 to 90% lean, 995 to 1405 lbs,. 43.50 to 47.00; high dressing, 48.00; low dressing, 39.50 to 43.00. Light, 57 head, 85 to 92% lean, 620 to 975 lbs., 40.00 to 43.50; high dressing, 44.00 to 46.50; low dressing, 35.50 to 39.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1375 to 2075 lbs., 60.00 to 63.50; high dressing, 65.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 58.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 8 month bred, average quality, 720.00 to 810.00.
