Livestock issues update to be held at PaolaKansas All livestock producers are invited to attend a free educational meeting at Paola Livestock Auction, Inc. on November 8. The first part of the meeting will be focused around the National Animal Identification System--where are we and where are we going. This part of the program is pertinent for all species of livestock. The second half of the meeting will focus on beef cattle--health issues and winter nutrition concerns. Bryan Rickard, the Kansas NAIS Coordinator with the State of Kansas Animal Health Department, will lead the session on NAIS. There will also be representatives from Allflex USA and Destron-Fearing, the two companies approved as official electronic identification distributors. They will show products that are available to producers to help with management of their livestock. Dr. Larry Hollis, K-State Extension Veterinarian, and Karl Harborth, Southeast Area Extension Livestock Specialist, will be presenting the beef issues part of the program. There will be a meal sponsored by K-State Research and Extension, Frontier Farm Credit, Paola Livestock Auction and Allflex prior to the meeting. Reservations for the free meal are required to be called in to the Extension Office at 913-294-4306 by Friday, Nov. 3. Individuals without a meal reservation will be charged $10.00 at the door for the meal. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 8, the meal at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information call: 913-294-4306. Date: 10/26/06
