UNL honors NALF's executive vice president

Nebraska

Kent Andersen, Ph.D., executive vice president for the North American Limousin Foundation, was one of five honorees during Masters Week (Nov. 1 to 4) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Each fall, the university invites outstanding alumni who have shown great promise, success and leadership in their professions to return to campus for interaction with students, faculty and administrators.

Faculty members nominate graduates who are active in their professions, with several years of outstanding service, and have information and experience valuable to the entire academic community. A screening committee of students, faculty members and administrators recommend prospective Masters to the chancellor, who makes the final selections.

During Andersen's tenure at NALF, he has been active in various beef industry organizations, including the Beef Improvement Federation, National Pedigreed Livestock Council, U.S. Beef Breeds Council and International Limousin Council. He joined the staff in 1990 as director of education and research and became the executive officer in 2000.

He earned his bachelor's degree in animal science from UNL in 1985 and received his master's and doctoral degrees in animal sciences from Colorado State University in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He continues to play an active role in his family's cow-calf enterprise near Lexington, Neb.

UNL's Masters Week began in 1964. The Innocents and Mortar Board societies, the chancellor's office, and the alumni association sponsor the program to update students and faculty members about significant trends and developments in their fields.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Englewood, Colo., provides programs and services--including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires--to about 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim-Flex hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
