Ranchers moving, shipping cattleNew Mexico There were 6.9 days suitable for field work during the week ending Nov. 19, according to the New Mexico Field Office, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nov. 20. Topsoil moisture was 11 percent very short, 45 percent short, 43 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Wind damage was 14 percent light, 5 percent moderate and 2 percent severe. Freeze damage was reported as 27 percent light, 14 percent moderate and 4 percent severe. Hail damage was reported as 1 percent light and 1 percent moderate. Farmers spent the week harvesting various crops and irrigating wheat. Alfalfa was reported as 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 40 percent good and 30 percent excellent, with 80 percent of the seventh cutting complete. Irrigated sorghum was reported as 70 percent harvested for grain. Dry sorghum was reported as 44 percent harvested for grain. Total sorghum was reported as 53 percent harvested. Irrigated winter Wheat condition was reported as mostly fair to excellent. Dry winter Wheat condition was reported as mostly fair to good. Total winter Wheat condition was reported as 5 percent poor, 50 percent fair, 39 percent good and 6 percent excellent. Peanuts were reported as 91 percent harvested. Onion conditions were reported as 15 percent fair, 60 percent good and 25 percent excellent with 100 percent planted. Pecan conditions were reported as fair to excellent. Cotton was reported as 64 percent harvested. Chile condition was reported as 5 percent very poor, 36 percent poor, 34 percent fair and 25 percent good. Red chile was reported as 80 percent harvested. Corn was reported as 91 percent harvested for grain. Cattle conditions were reported at 2 percent poor, 16 percent fair, 73 percent good and 9 percent excellent. Sheep conditions were reported as 10 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 41 percent good and 5 percent excellent. Range and pasture conditions were reported as 4 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 54 percent good and 8 percent excellent. Ranchers are working, shipping and moving cattle.
