KARL endowment fund enhanced by High Plains Heritage Foundation

Kansas

The Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program announced that it received a $20,000 endorsement from a charter board member during the program's Economic Revitalization Seminar Nov. 8 in Liberal.

Florence Metcalf, presented an agreement between the Ted and Florence Metcalf family, the High Plains Heritage Foundation and KARL, Inc. with earned funds from the investment to be used for the educational efforts of the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program.

Metcalf served as the first curriculum committee chair of the board of directors for the KARL program, said Jack Lindquist, president of the private non-profit educational organization.

"We can't express our appreciation enough for the vision Florence Metcalf had by providing a framework of unmatched educational experiences for future agricultural and rural Kansas leaders," Lindquist said. "Her gift is a model for other successful rural leaders to extend their legacy to the benefit of emerging leaders. In effect, Florence Metcalf has encouraged others to follow in her footsteps--others that share in her belief in the importance of strong leadership within the agricultural industry and rural communities. We are grateful for all contributions, but especially for her family's trust in our program."

With the gift, the Mecalfs have joined the select group of major endowment donors known as KARL Legacy Benefactors, Lindquist added.

KARL, Inc. is dedicated to identifying and developing leadership in order to enhance the quality of life for all Kansans. KARL's two-year budget is approximately $375,000 for 30 class participants. Participants pay a tuition fee of $2,500 and donors contribute the remaining $10,000 per class member. KARL funding comes entirely from private sources through donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, foundations, and corporations. KARL, Inc. is a 501c3 charitable, educational organization.

More information about the KARL Program is available at its website www.karlprogram.com or by calling 785-532-6300.
