Hood wins National FFA award

Kally Ann Hood, 20, of the Rock Creek FFA Chapter in Kansas was named the national winner of the Equine Science-Placement Proficiency award program at the 79th National FFA Convention, Oct. 25 to 28 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while they gained hands on career experience. Equine Science-Placement is one of 51 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state and national levels.

Hood became eligible for the national award after winning the Kansas state FFA competition earlier this year. She works with world champion halter horses at Kevin Hood Show Horses. Hood helps breed, train, fit and show Paint horses, as well as give riding lessons and teaches others how to show their horses. She also helps them develop their skills handling horses. Hood is a member of the Rock Creek FFA Chapter in Kansas, and Darin Holiday is the advisor. Hood is a graduate of Rock Creek Junior Senior High School. She is majoring in agricultural business at Kansas State University. Hood is the daughter of Kevin and Kathy Hood.

Equine Science-Placement proficiency award program is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

FFA is a national youth organization of 490,017 student members preparing for leadership careers in science, business and technology of agriculture with 7,210 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
