West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,100 head May 23, compared to 3,239 head last week and 4,707 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steer calves under 400 pounds and yearlings over 800 pounds were $3 to $6 higher, 400- to 800-pound steers sold steady to $3 higher. Heifers were unevenly steady to $2 higher, with most that weighed 600 to 650 pounds selling $2 to $3 higher. The supply was moderate, quality was not as attractive and uniform lots were not nearly as plentiful this week. Demand was good on all classes and weight ranges. Even plainer cattle, especially 6 weight heifers found active trade. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and 46% heifers, with nearly 43% over 600 pounds.
