OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,861 head May 25, compared to 4,019 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $5 higher, while calves were mostly steady. Quality was mostly plain to average. Demand was good as Wheat is starting to be harvested in the trading region. Feeder cattle and calves in medium to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were mostly average. Slaughter cows were mostly $2 to $4 lower and slaughter bulls were mostly steady to $2 lower. A total of 491 cows and bulls sold with 37% going to packers. The supply consisted of 90% over 600 pounds, 10% under 600 pounds. Heifers comprised 38% of the feeder and calf supply.

Boners, 29 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1085 to 1450 lbs., 43.00 to 46.00; high dressing, 44.50 to 48.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.50. Lean, 78 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1280 lbs., 41.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 43.50 to 45.00; low dressing, 37.00 to 41.00. Lights, 35 head, 80 to 90% lean, 820 to 1020 lbs., 41.00 to 43.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 38.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 17 head, 1430 to 1950 lbs., 56.50 to 60.00; high dressing, 62.50 to 67.00; low dressing, 53.50 to 54.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 2 years old, 950 to 1000 lbs., 2 to 3 months bred, high quality, 800.00 to 900.00; 1 to 2 years old, 900 to 1000 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 760.00 to 800.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, average quality, 630.00 to 690.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1200 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 760.00 to 900.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 540.00 to 585.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 350-lb. calves, high quality, 1325.00 to 1440.00; 6 to 8 year old, 950 to 1250 lbs., with 150- to 400-lb. calves, average quality, 840.00 to 1025.00.
