Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 316 head May 18, compared to 1,142 head last week and 1,463 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs too few to test. Feeder lambs offered were old crop. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 lower on a light test, with the Good ewes showing the steady figure. Receipts were about 40% slaughter ewes, 16% feeder lambs, 12% aged bucks, 7% open ewes and the balance was miscellaneous sheep, goats and bum lambs. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 46 head, 173 lbs., 29.75. Good 2 to 4, 21 head, 197 lbs., 24.00. Utility 1 to 2, 25 head, 145 lbs., 30.50. Cull 1, 21 head, 127 lbs., 24.75. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 23 head, 88 lbs., 78.50 wooled; 5 head, 101 lbs., 73.50 shorn. Open ewes: Shorn, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, price per head, 10 head, 2 to 4 years old, 163 lbs., 85.00: 11 head, 2 to 4 years old, 156 lbs., 78.00 thin. Aged bucks: 33 head, fleshy, 237 to 244 lbs., 24.00 to 25.00. Date: 5/25/06
