The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 18, totaled 3,315 head, compared to 2,600 head last week and 7,700 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers at Wyoming auctions were not well tested, a few heifers under 700 pounds sold steady. Demand was moderate. In the direct trade not enough feeder steers and heifers for good price comparison. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Offerings were light. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 70% of the supply, heifers 30%, with 86% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2330 head of the total receipts.

Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 680 lbs., 120.00 delivered; 840 lbs., 95.00; 860 to 900 lbs., 90.00 to 91.00. Medium to large frame 1 to 2, 775 lbs., 99.00.
