The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,000 head March 21, compared to 2,286 head last week and 3,114 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson, Mo.
Compared to last week, steers and heifers weighing 350 to 500 pounds were steady to $2 lower, although feather weight calves weighing 250 to 350 pounds, mostly thin/weaned, were very actively $5 to $10 higher. Weights over 500 pounds sold $1 to $3 higher, full advance on 550 to 650 pounds steers, with only a limited supply of yearlings steers over 750 pounds and heifers over 700 pounds trading $2 to $4 higher. The supply was light. Demand was good, in spite of some regular players being out of the market, along with the added nasty winter weather for receiving livestock in parts of the northwest. The supply consisted of 49% steers, 7% bulls and 44% heifers, nearly 23% weighed 600 pounds
