Third annual San Angelo A&M Center spring field day set for April 27The third annual natural resources field day at The Texas A&M University System Agricultural Research and Extension Center at San Angelo is set for April 27. The program will be from 9 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. at the center, which is located on U.S. Highway 87 north of San Angelo. Dr. John Walker, the center's resident director of research, said this year's theme is "Reducing Risk in Uncertain Environments." "The field day focuses on strategies and techniques producers can implement to avoid having to make forced decisions when disaster strikes," Walker said. "These disastrous episodes might include anything from drought to wildfires to an animal disease outbreak scare. We'll also feature an extensive trade show of commercial and educational exhibitors who serve the San Angelo trade area." The morning sessions will include talks on grazing, livestock and wildlife management, weed and brush control, and rangeland monitoring. The afternoon session will start at 1 p.m. after a catered lunch. The session will feature a talk on making management decisions based on long-range weather forecasts. The field day will conclude with an Emergency Relief Funding panel conducted by personnel from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Farm Services Agency and Farm Bureau. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered. Individual pre-registration is $25. After April 21, registration is $40. Student registration is $10. Lunch is included. For more information call the center at 325-653-4576.Date: 3/23/06
