The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,253 head March 17, compared to 571 head last week and 1,165 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Compared to last week, feeder cattle were too few for a comparison but a lower undertone was noted from two weeks ago, with nearly 25% steers qualified for natural beef programs. Slaughter cows sold steady to weak. Slaughter bulls too few to test. Feeder cows sold $1 to $2 lower. Feeder receipts included 57% steers and 43% heifers, with 75% over 600 pounds. A few load lots offered, most drafts fifty head or less. Receipts were about 80% feeders and replacement heifers, 10% replacement females, 5% slaughter cows and the balance was baby calves, pairs, bred cows and feeder bulls.
Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 549 lbs., 136.00; 567 to 582 lbs., 132.00 to 137.50 (136.59) value enhanced; 13 head, 603 to 613 lbs., 120.00 to 127.00 (123.30); 79 head, 648 lbs., 128.25 value enhanced; 653 to 688 lbs., 112.50 to 116.50 (115.95); 81 head, 655 lbs., 129.50 value enhanced; 705 to 730 lbs., 108.00 to 111.50 (109.62); 8 head, 713 lbs., 102.00 fleshy; 18 head, 741 lbs., 102.00 full; 18 head, 763 to 796 lbs., 100.50 to 104.50 (101.36); 9 head, 754 lbs., 97.75 fleshy. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 578 to 599 lbs., 124.00 to 129.00 (125.33); 600 to 635 lbs., 113.50 to 121.00 (119.54). Large frame 1, 5 head, 751 lbs., 99.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1580 lbs., 50.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1395 to 1630 lbs., 49.50 to 50.50; low dressing, 45.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 825 to 1192 lbs., 45.50 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.50 to 54.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 45.00.
Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 820 to 935 lbs., 81.00 to 86.50; 2 years old, 905 to 1155 lbs., 69.00 to 79.00; heiferettes, 1035 to 1205 lbs., 59.50 to 68.50.
Feeder cows: Large frame 1, 1380 to 1560 lbs., 50.50 to 55.00, full 48.50 to 50.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 995 to 1355 lbs., 50.50 to 55.25, full 45.50 to 49.50.
Baby calves: 40 to 100 lbs, mixed sex and color, price per head; 20 head, 285.00 to 400.00, most 350.00 to 375.00.
Bred females: Large frame 1, bred black and Charolais, calve now, price per head, 5 head, heifers, 1051 lbs., 1200.00; 6 head, broken, 1384 lbs., 950.00.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1275 to 2165 lbs., 60.50 to 63.25; high dressing, 68.00; low dressing, 55.50 to 58.50, individual 2530 lbs., 58.50.
