Some New Mexico farmers eligible for disaster aid
Untitled
ALBUQUERQUE (AP)--Farmers and ranchers in four eastern New Mexico counties are eligible for federal disaster assistance because of persistent dry conditions in the area, Sen. Jeff Bingaman announced March 8.
Bingaman, a New Mexico Democrat, said farmers and ranchers in Quay, Curry, Roosevelt and Lea counties can apply for low interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.
The agency, which is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will consider each application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses due to the drought, security available and repayment ability.
