Researchers gather in Ames for bird flu seminar

AMES, Iowa (AP)--More than two dozen researchers from around the world have gathered in Ames to learn to how to test for avian influenza.
The 28 researchers, on the frontline of potential bird flu outbreaks in their home countries, will be trained through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and the Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologics, which is headquartered at Iowa State.
The topic of the conference, which began Feb. 27 and ran through March 3, is titled "Workshop on Testing and Diagnostics for Avian Influenza."
The researchers, who were selected by the USDA, come from the following countries: Georgia, Philippines, Senegal, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Romania, Vietnam, Indonesia, Armenia, Iraq, Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Algeria and Morocco.
