The McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 800 head March 21, compared to 2,250 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.
Compared to last week, there were very light receipts due to the much needed rainfall. Stocker and feeder cattle were steady. Only moderate attendance of buyers and trade was active on better offerings. Quality was plain to average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. Receipts were comprised of 59% steers, 39% heifers with 21% feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls steady on a light market test. Good attendance of buyers. Marginal interest on very few take-home cows. A total of 187 cows and bulls sold with 40% to packers.
Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 310 to 340 lbs., 163.00 to 172.50 (167.10); 5 head, 355 to 360 lbs., 161.00 to 161.50 (161.20); 7 head, 410 to 435 lbs., 140.00 to 146.00 (141.07); 8 head, 450 to 499 lbs., 134.00 to 137.00 (135.37); 510 to 545 lbs., 130.00 to 136.50 (131.35); 550 to 596 lbs., 123.50 to 129.00 (126.03); 12 head, 600 to 635 lbs., 117.00 to 128.50 (121.49); 9 head, 665 to 693 lbs., 108.00 to 113.50 (110.99); 5 head, 805 to 810 lbs., 96.75 to 97.00 (96.85). Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 315 to 335 lbs., 142.50 to 156.00 (151.69); 8 head, 350 to 385 lbs., 145.00 to 151.00 (147.82); 10 head, 400 to 425 lbs., 131.00 to 138.00 (135.12); 11 head, 450 to 495 lbs., 122.00 to 130.50 (126.21); 8 head, 500 to 545 lbs., 125.00 to 129.00 (128.05); 5 head, 560 to 590 lbs., 117.00 to 119.50 (117.91); 7 head, 655 to 670 lbs., 102.00 to 108.00 (102.87). Boners, 34 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1550 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 57.50; low dressing, 47.00. Lean, 17 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1025 to 1150 lbs., 48.50 to 52.00; high dressing, 53.00. Light, 13 head, 85 to 93% lean, 750 to 950 lbs., 42.50 to 46.00; low dressing, 37.00 to 41.00.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1375 to 2050 lbs., 64.00 to 67.50; high dressing, 69.00 to 72.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 63.00.
Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 2 years old, 900 to 1100 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average quality 780.00 to 850.00
