Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,921 head June 19, compared to 3,108 head last week and 1,945 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher, with the most increase on 700- to 825-pound yearling steers. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady after being lower the last few weeks. Cow runs have been large at many locations in the surrounding states due to drought conditions the past few weeks. Many new crop calves in the offering, again due to dry pasture conditions. A trend comparison was difficult on calves due to the number of weaned calves in the offering, compared to many new crop calves this week. Current 100 degree temperatures make the weaned calves bring quite a bit more than there bawling counterparts. There was a limited test on yearling heifers. Replacement type cow prices have also been depressed the last few weeks, due to lack of available forage. Trade was active. Demand was moderate. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 750 pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 85% and slaughter cows and bulls 15% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 61% of the run, heifers 39%, with 51% over 600 pounds.
