Soil moisture levels adequate to surplusMontana Montana experienced normal temperatures with adequate moisture during the week ending June 18, according to the Montana Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, June 19. Topsoil moisture adequate and surplus, at 80 percent, increased from last week's 76 percent, but is behind last year's 93 percent. Subsoil moisture adequate and surplus, at 67 percent, increased from last week's 60 percent. Range and pasture conditions have declined slightly from last week. Ranchers are finishing movement of livestock to summer ranges. Reports indicate crops in some areas are responding favorably to the recent moisture. Hay harvest is underway throughout the state. Winter Wheat condition declined slightly from last week. Durum Wheat condition decreased from last week, but is the same as last year. Reports indicate pulse crops are emerging quickly and crop conditions are favorable. Date: 6/21/06
