OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,537 head June 21, compared to 4,537 head last week and 7,118 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, El Reno, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers were $3 to $4 higher, with instances $7 higher. Feeder heifers weighing 600 to 800 pounds were $1 to $3 higher and over 800 pounds were steady. Steer and heifer calves were $3 to $6 higher. Demand was very good for feeder steers and heifers, demand for calves good. Quality was plain through attractive. Weigh-ups showed the complete range of gaunt to full. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 higher. A total of 449 cows and bulls sold with 43% going to packers.

Lean, 85 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 44.30 to 47.50; low dressing, 37.50 to 43.00. Lights, 50 head, 80 to 90% lean, 850 to 1000 lbs., 38.50 to 44.00; low dressing, 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 10 head, 1475 to 2100 lbs., 56.50 to 59.00; high dressing, 65.00 to 67.00; low dressing, 53.50 to 54.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 3 years old, 800 to 1000 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 680.00 to 850.00; 1 to 2 years old, 850 to 1000 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 850.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 810.00 to 1000.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 500.00 to 720.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 450.00 to 650.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 800 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 975.00 to 1125.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, average quality, 975.00 to 1130.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1100 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average quality, 700.00 to 770.00.
