McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,300 head June 30, compared to 2,300 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were $2 to $5 higher. There was a good attendance of buyers who were active on trade. Quality was mostly average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Receipts were comprised of 46% steers, 47% heifers with 15% feeders over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady. Demand was moderate for bred cows and pairs. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 46% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 300 to 340 lbs., 147.00 to 156.00 (151.16); 18 head, 360 to 395 lbs., 140.00 to 149.25 (146.96); 18 head, 400 to 445 lbs., 128.00 to 137.00 (131.59); 450 to 495 lbs., 123.00 to 133.50 (127.91); 500 to 548 lbs., 121.00 to 127.50 (124.80); 550 to 598 lbs., 118.50 to 121.00 (119.43); 18 head, 600 to 645 lbs., 115.00 to 120.50 (117.69); 8 head, 655 to 670 lbs., 112.50 to 115.00 (114.31). Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 304 to 345 lbs., 136.00 to 146.00 (140.85); 352 to 395 lbs., 130.00 to 139.00 (135.15); 14 head, 405 to 448 lbs., 117.00 to 126.00 (123.26); 450 to 495 lbs., 115.00 to 123.50 (119.62); 20 head, 500 to 540 lbs., 111.00 to 118.00 (115.55); 550 to 595 lbs., 109.50 to 117.50 (113.04); 20 head, 608 to 643 lbs., 109.00 to 114.00 (111.30); 10 head, 655 to 698 lbs., 106.00 to 111.00 (108.05). Slaughter cows: Breakers, 31 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1125 to 1600 lbs., 48.50 to 52.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 47.50. Boners, 53 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1725 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Lean, 40 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1300 lbs., 44.00 to 47.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50. Light, 49 head, 85 to 90% lean, 625 to 1000 lbs., 39.50 to 43.00; high dressing, 45.00 to 47.50; low dressing, 34.50 to 38.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1350 to 1975 lbs., 58.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 63.00 to 69.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 57.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 6 years old, 1025 to 1325 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, average quality, 710.00 to 810.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 4 years old, 1020 to 1150 lbs., with 320- to 425-lb. calves, average quality, 1010.00 to 1020.00; 4 to 7 years old, 875 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 225-lb. calves, average quality, 820.00 to 910.00.
