High-quality beef seminar comes to South DakotaSouth Dakota With commodity cattle prices as predictable as the weather, most producers want to find ways to add performance and value to each calf. That's why Certified Angus Beef LLC (CAB), in partnership with Pfizer Animal Health, is sponsoring the "Black Ink Basics" seminars. The July educational meetings will feature strategies for increasing profit potential. Producers who are hungry for knowledge--and a tasty beef dinner--should reserve a spot now because space is limited. Choose from one of three meetings across the state: --July 12 at the Mitchell Holiday Inn; --July 13 at the Cheyenne Ridge Outfitters & Lodge near Pierre; or --July 14 at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge near Lead. Check-in starts at 3 p.m., with the program from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. The CAB specialist for foodservice distributor SYSCO-Philadelphia will present, "a fresh perspective on consumer satisfaction." Charlie Boyer will share challenges and successes from his large metropolitan market. Mark McCully, CAB director of supply development, will explain the main areas of demand for the brand, and highlight the current supply challenges. Research from South Dakota State University (SDSU) sheds new light on how to manage cattle for a high quality target. Kelly Bruns will discuss results from the studies he and fellow SDSU animal scientist Robbi Pritchard conducted. Following a dinner featuring Certified Angus Beefâ brand products, McCully and Pfizer veterinarian Gerald Stokka will present the impact of health, management and genetics on high-quality cattle. The final session will showcase local producers who have created partnerships that help them capture the most value for their cattle. Paul Dykstra, CAB feedlot specialist, will moderate the panel discussion. Date: 6/21/06
