Hay trade moderate to activeIn Kansas the hay trade is moderate to active. Demand strong for dairy and grinding alfalfa and brome, moderate to strong for stock cow quality hay, alfalfa pellets, straw and prairie hay, and moderate for grass mulch, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, June 20. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement moderate to active. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, $150-$160, mostly $160, some $5/60#, in small square squares; supreme dairy, $130-$145; premium, $115-$132; good, $110-$115. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, in the field, $100 for immediate pickup, to $115 with time. Ground and delivered, $120-$138. For the week ending June 10, 13,329 tons of grinding alfalfa and 2,584 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Oat hay, good, in large squares, $95. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement moderate to active. Dairy alfalfa, supreme, $125-$140; premium, $110-$125; good, $95-$115. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, in the field, $85-$100, mostly, $90-$95. Ground and delivered, $105-$115. For the week ending June 10, 3,813 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,675 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15 and 17% protein, $135-$140, mostly, $135; dehydrated, 17% protein, $155. Southeast: Alfalfa, prairie hay and brome steady. Movement moderate. Alfalfa, horse and goat, in medium squares, $125-$155. Dairy alfalfa, supreme, $150; premium, $110-$120; good, $90-$110. Alfalfa-wheat mix, good, in medium, squares, $75. Alfalfa-oats mix, premium, in medium squares, $120. Bluestem, in small squares, fair, $55-$65; good, $70-$75; in medium and large squares, scarce, $65-$75, mostly, $70; in large rounds. $50-$55. Alfalfa, supreme dairy, $110-$140, some 65 cents/point RFV; premium, $100-$115, some 65 cents/point RFV; good, $85-$100.
