Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending July 22, totaled 6,850 head, compared to 6,150 head last week and 4,750 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Steers and heifers were not well tested at Wyoming auctions this week. Demand was moderate. In the direct trade few comparable steer and heifer sales steady. Direct trade, demand and buyer inquiry were moderate. Offerings were moderate to heavy. Some interest noted for fall contracting of calves and yearlings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 66% of the supply, heifers 34% with 57% over 600 pounds.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 640 lbs., 119.00; 770 lbs., 117.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 670 lbs., 113.00; 720 lbs., 114.00. Direct, Medium to large frame 1, FOB price, 450 lbs., 150.00 September; 470 lbs., 142.00 to 143.00 October to November; 535 to 580 lbs., 130.00 to 135.00 October; 625 lbs., 122.00 October; 850 to 900 lbs., 108.00 to 111.00 current; 850 112.00 to 113.00 September; 960 lbs., 107.00 August. Delivered price, 600 to 625 lbs., 126.00 to 127.00 October.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 680 lbs., 115.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 111.75 to 113.00; 1095 to 1120 lbs., 82.00 to 84.00. Direct, Medium to large frame 1, FOB price, 410 lbs., 142.00 September; 510 lbs., 129.00 October; 820 to 840 lbs., 109.50 to 110.00 current; 850 to 875 lbs., 102.00 to 105.00 current; 860 lbs., 105.00 August; 875 lbs., 102.00 current. Delivered price, 575 lbs., 120.00 October; 685 lbs., 117.00 October.
