Wheat weed management course can enhance post-harvest weed controlNebraska This is the time of year for Wheat growers to reflect on the weed challenges of the past season and to consider post-harvest weed control strategies. "Scouting this time of year is crucial for good weed control. A late flush of weeds can cause real problems for weed management next year," stated Michelle VanLaningham, Executive Director of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association. "Making sure that you catch late season weeds before they have a chance to set seed is essential." "Also this time of year you have a lot of options. You can mow, till or use a wide range of herbicides." Recognizing how important effective, integrated weed management is, the National Association of Wheat Grower has developed the Wheat Weed Resistance Management Course, available online at www.wheatworld.org/WRMC/. The Wheat WRMC is a self-paced tool that growers can take use in the convenience of their own homes. The course is completely free to everyone and takes about an hour to complete. This is also the time of year that growers may want to consider consulting with Certified Crop Advisors, industry representatives or with extension agents on any weed problems that experienced over the past year. The Wheat WRMC also provides a number of links to resources that can provide more detailed and farm-specific information. "Good stewardship at this time of year really pays dividends," stated VanLaningham. Date: 7/26/06
