Website is one-stop shop for drought informationKansas Farmers and ranchers who need the latest drought information or who want to know how an agricultural disaster is declared should visit the Kansas Department of Agriculture website at www.ksda.gov. "Drought is stressful enough without wondering where and how to access current information," said Secretary of Agriculture Adrian Polansky. "We encourage folks to visit our website because it can answer a lot of their questions or link them to so many other drought--or disaster-related websites." The department hosts three Web pages--Kansas Drought Information, Procedures for Emergency Federal Assistance, and Drought News--that explain the state's role in a drought, how an agriculture disaster is declared, and link to the latest drought news from Governor Kathleen Sebelius, the Kansas Farm Service Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Web pages also link to critical crisis management programs that help farm and ranch families work through difficult times. And also to hay and pasture websites that link individuals with hay and pasture needs to individuals with hay and pasture supplies. "If folks across the state have questions about drought in Kansas, I encourage them to visit our website," Polansky said. "It's a service for them, to help them get the information they need, when they need it." Currently, about two-thirds of Kansas is experiencing moderate to severe drought, while the remaining third is abnormally dry. Date: 7/27/06
