OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,646 head, compared to 4,836 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 higher, light 700-pound steers were up to $5 higher. Feeder heifers were steady. Demand was very good for feeder cattle as cattle futures closed sharply higher. Steer and heifer calves were steady to $3 lower, the most decline was on those under 500 pounds. Demand was moderate for calves as hot dry conditions continue. Quality was plain through attractive. Feeder cattle in medium flesh, few fleshy. Calves in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Packer demand was good and greatly improved from last week. Demand light to moderate for bred cows and pairs. A total of 760 cows and bulls sold with 73% going to packers. The supply consisted of 62% over 600 pounds, 25% under 600 pounds, 13% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 37% of the feeder and calf supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 200 to 300 lbs., 152.50 to 162.50; 350 to 400 lbs., 135.00 to 143.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 121.00 to 129.00; few 540 to 600 lbs., 116.50 to 121.00; few 600 to 675 lbs., 111.00 to 113.50; few 725 to 750 lbs., 105.00 to 107.00. Yearlings, 600 to 700 lbs., 122.00 to 126.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 117.00 to 123.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 112.50 to 116.75; 800 to 850 lbs., 109.75 to 116.75; 850 to 900 lbs., 108.00 to 110.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 100.00 to 108.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, calves, 450 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 120.00; 575 lbs., 115.00; 600 lbs., 115.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 95.00 to 99.00. Yearlings, 700 to 750 lbs., 112.50 to 116.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 107.25 to 110.00; 915 lbs., 100.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 475 lbs., 115.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 119.00; 690 lbs., 119.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.00 to 110.00; few 800 to 900 lbs., 102.50 to 108.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 200 to 300 lbs., 132.50 to 135.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 119.00 to 131.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 112.00 to 125.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 113.50 to 124.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 102.50 to 110.00. Yearlings, 600 to 675 lbs., 109.00 to 116.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 105.50 to 112.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 102.00 to 109.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 96.50 to 102.50, 840 lbs., fancy 106.00; 950 lbs., fancy 100.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 575 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 115.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 107.00 to 114.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 96.00 to 100.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 96.00 to 100.00. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 110.00 to 113.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 112.00 to 117.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 96.50 to 109.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 102.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 18 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1700 lbs., 44.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 49.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.75. Boners, 179 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1450 lbs., 44.00 to 47.00; high dressing, 48.00 to 50.75; low dressing, 40.50 to 43.50. Lean, 200 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1400 lbs., 42.50 to 46.00; high dressing, 47.50; low dressing, 37.00 to 41.00. Lights, 86 head, 80 to 90% lean, 775 to 975 lbs., 40.50 to 43.50; low dressing, 34.00 to 40.25; very low 31.00 to 35.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1400 to 2150 lbs., 55.50 to 59.00; high dressing, 59.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 52.00 to 56.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 8 years old, 1150 to 1275 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average to high quality, 710.00 to 760.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 5 months bred, average quality, 500.00 to 550.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average quality, 580.00 to 650.00; 8 to 9 years old, 1050 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 420.00 to 525.00; 10 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average to high quality blacks, 450.00 to 490.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves, average quality, 825.00 to 900.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average to low quality, 540.00 to 630.00.
