Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,016 head July 20, compared to 1,285 head last week and 1,198 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, attractive quality feeder lambs under 90 pounds sold $1 to $3 higher. Lambs over 90 pounds sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. Some of the lighter lambs definitely showing the effects of the drought. Receipts were about 92% feeders, 4% slaughter ewes and the balance was open ewes, bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 22 head, 174 lbs., 19.50. Good 2 to 4, 16 head, 207 lbs., 17.25. Utility 1 to 2, 52 head, 152 lbs., 20.75. Cull 1, 9 head, 144 lbs., 18.25. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 56 head, 57 lbs., 120.00; 60 to 67 lbs., 103.75 to 109.00 (108.15); 72 to 79 lbs., 106.50 to 110.75 (109.40); 80 to 88 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50 (110.42); 92 to 97 lbs., 99.50 to 105.75 (102.81); 100 to 108 lbs., 97.75 to 104.00 (103.11); 40 head, 112 lbs., 99.50. Medium and Large 2, 16 head, 50 lbs., 106.00; 15 head, 68 lbs., 100.00; 26 head, 72 lbs., 102.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 69 lbs., 101.50; 85 to 88 lbs., 101.00 to 106.75 (105.46); 10 head, 93 lbs., 96.25; 42 head, 103 lbs., 99.50. Medium frame 2, 14 head, 55 lbs., 105.50.
