Need cattle ID Info? Plan to attend ID/INFO EXPO 2006

Confused about cattle ID? You're not alone. In fact, hundreds of other stakeholders affected by the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) will be convening in Kansas City at the annual ID/INFO EXPO 2006 to hear the latest developments on this important animal agriculture issue.

ID/INFO EXPO, a conference and trade show, sponsored by the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA), will be held Aug. 22 to 24 at the Westin Crown Center. ID/Info Expo serves as the premier national meeting on animal ID. In attendance will be leaders and stakeholders from government, industry, producer organizations and academia.

"Each of the three days will contain vital information that anyone concerned with cattle ID needs to hear," states NIAA ID Committee Vice-Chair Glenn Fischer and ID/INFO EXPO planning committee member. "Tuesday, which is billed as the 'Pre-conference Seminar', session will feature a report from Gary Wilson, an Ohio producer who also serves as Chair of the NAIS Cattle Working Group. The working group has been dealing with cattle ID issues over the last two years and this is a report that everyone will want to hear," Fischer says.

In addition, presentations on two key components of the NAIS system will also be featured: Animal Identification Number (AIN) management system and Animal Trace Processing System (ATPS). Other ID/INFO EXPO highlights include three concurrent technology seminars allowing attendees to hear about the recent developments in animal identification and data services technologies directly from the companies providing these products and services.

Wednesday's "Opening Session" features presentations by USDA leaders reporting on implementation progress including status of premises ID, the tracking system, and NAIS policy items. Also, various states will report on their implementation plans. Wednesday afternoon's focus is on "Benefits and Concerns" regarding NAIS. The day's agenda will close out with "Effective Communications on NAIS", which includes a panel discussion.

The final day will include "Mainstream Animal ID Solutions and Practical Applications" and a session devoted to bringing it all together, including suggestions for future directions and activities regarding NAIS. The meeting adjourns at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 24).

In addition to the speakers' program, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about various aspects of ID technology at the Expo tradeshow. Additional information regarding ID/INFO EXPO is available at www.animalagriculture.org/id/IDINFOEXPO2006/ or by calling 270.782.9798.
