National Junior Swine Association Foundation Female brings $10,000The National Junior Swine Association's Foundation Female sold for $10,000 to Gerald Collins, Aurora, Colo.; Jim Lanier, Philipsburg, Kan.; and NNN Farms, Newman Grove, Neb., July 8 at the National Junior Summer Spectacular in Louisville, Ky. Steve Cobb and Family of Lake City, Ark., donated their superior Yorkshire female. The Dec. 5 Yorkshire gilt, ARK5 Spotlight 64-3, is sired by ARK3 Dynamite 58-1. The NJSA developed the Foundation Female program to support scholarship awards for NJSA members. Each year, the NJSA Board of Directors searches for an outstanding Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace or Yorkshire female from an established purebred herd to be offered for sale. In addition to offering a solid foundation piece from a proven herd, the NJSA showcases a family that supports youth projects and creates opportunities for the future of our purebred industry. Steve Cobb has produced hogs for more than 35 years. The Cobb operation consists of about 125 females, mainly Yorkshires and a few crossbreds. The Steve Cobb Family is a longtime supporter of youth programs and is proud to have donated this year's NJSA Foundation Female. The National Junior Summer Spectacular, sponsored by the National Junior Swine Association, is held each year in Louisville, Ky. Youth participants can compete in a gilt show, showmanship, skillathon, judging contest, speech contest, photography contest, poster contest and sweepstakes contest. This year more than 680 gilts were exhibited from youth representing 30 states. Date: 7/26/06
