McAlester cattle auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 3,400 head July 25, compared to 2,800 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker cattle were $3 to $5 lower. Feeder steers were mostly steady over 700 pounds. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 lower. Good attendance of buyers and active on better offerings, moderate at best on balance. Quality was plain to average. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh. Receipts were comprised of 49% steers, 46% heifers, with 18% cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Good attendance of buyers. Moderate interest in bred cows and pairs. A total of 510 cows and bulls sold with 44% going to packers.

Boners, 105 head, 80 to 85% lean, 975 to 1400 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 42.50 to 46.00. Lean, 67 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1300 lbs., 42.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 37.50 to 41.50. Light, 45 head, 85 to 92% lean, 825 to 950 lbs., 37.00 to 40.50; high dressing, 42.00 to 45.50; low dressing, 33.00 to 36.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1400 to 2140 lbs., 61.00; high dressing, 63.00 to 66.50; low dressing, 53.50 to 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 2 to 5 years old, 1050 to 1175 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality 620.00 to 730.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 2 to 5 years old, 850 to 1250 lbs., with 185- to 375-lb. calves, average quality 735.00 to 810.00.
