Limited Irrigation Field Day slated Aug. 16 at TribuneKansas Kansas State University's Southwest Research-Extension Center Irrigation Field will host a Limited Irrigation Field Day Aug. 16 at the research field. The field is located 4 miles east of Tribune (to Whitelaw), then 4.5 miles north and 1 mile east. The day begins at 7:45 a.m. (MDT) with registration and refreshments. Field tours will begin at 8 a.m., with tour topics to include: --Limited irrigated no-till cropping system; --Economics of limited irrigation; --Crop response to limited irrigation; --Adjusting irrigation and N rates for high energy and fertilizer costs; --Corn grain yield and identifiable plant characteristics; --Phosphorus fertilization of corn; --Irrigated corn hybrids; and --New chemistry for weed control in grain sorghum. At 11:30 a.m. (MDT), lunch will be provided. A luncheon presentation on "The Future of Agricultural Research in Western Kansas" will be given by Bob Gillen, head of K-State's Western Kansas Agricultural Research Centers.
