West Plains regional sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,000 head Jan. 24, compared to 4,208 head last week and 4,591 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 650 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, with majority 550 to 650 pound weaned calves $3 to $6 higher. Weights over 650 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, although a very limited supply on weights over 700 pounds were offered. The supply was moderate. Demand was good to very good, as buyers were aggressive on light and middle weight calves, especially those offering a fast and healthy come to on and those reflecting a more desirable carcass as the end result. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and 46% heifers, with nearly 33% over 600 pounds.
