Tulia livestock auction news

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,249 head Jan. 23, compared to 2,914 head last week and 3,710 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher, 600 to 800 pounds were $2 to $3 lower, over 800 pounds were steady. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows were $3 to $6 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 lower. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 500- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 95% and slaughter cows and bulls 5% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 59% of the run, heifers 41%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 59%.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 46.25 to 48.00, few; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 40.00 to 45.50; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 35.00 to 39.50, few.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1430 to 2015 lbs., 52.50 to 57.50, few; high dressing, 2100 to 2310 lbs., 59.00 to 62.00, few; low dressing, 1170 lbs., 45.50, individual.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, young to middle-aged, 1200 to 1295 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 750.00 to 1000.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 790 to 1260 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 400.00 to 535.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 800.00 to 900.00 per pair.
