St. Onge livestock auction report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,815 head Jan. 20, compared to 3,168 head last week and 1,455 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Trends on feeder cattle were not applicable due to light receipts. Compared to last week slaughter cows sold $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were too few to test but a higher undertone was noted. Feeder receipts included 33% steers and 67% heifers, with 65% over 600 pounds. It was standing room only for the bred female sale, with many buyers present and good to very good demand. Receipts included about 76% bred females, 11% replacement females, 8% feeders, 4% slaughter cows and 1% slaughter bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 19 head, 570 to 586 lbs., 130.00. Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 683 lbs., 110.50 thin.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 502 lbs., 129.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 12 head, 651 lbs., 112.50 thin; 33 head, 720 lbs., 111.50 thin.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1380 to 1940 lbs., 51.00 to 52.00; 75 to 80% lean, 1445 to 1490 lbs., 54.75 to 59.00 young. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1045 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 53.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 928 to 1305 lbs., 44.50 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.50; lo dressing, 40.00 to 43.00.
