Salina cattle auction report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,901 head, Jan. 19, compared to 5,031 head, last week and 5,343 head, last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers weighing 450 to 650 pounds were $2 to $4 higher. Steers weighing 650 to 950 pounds were steady to $1.50 higher, and heifers weighing 650 to 900 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 82% 600 pounds and over, 17% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 66% steers and 34% heifers.
