Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 260 head Jan. 19, compared to 896 head last week and 898 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Receipts were too light to make trends applicable. The offering of feeder lambs lacked the bloom and freshness associated with quality feeder lambs. Receipts consisted of about 61% feeders and 34% slaughter ewes. The balance was bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 26 head, 135 lbs., 45.25; 37 head, 164 lbs., 48.00. Utility 1 to 2, 16 head, 144 lbs., 50.75. Cull 1, 7 head, 111 lbs., 47.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 70 to 78 lbs., 111.00 to 113.00 (111.87); 91 to 94 lbs., 98.00 to 100.00 (99.30); 14 head, 119 lbs., 77.50. Medium frame 1 and 2, 11 head, 73 lbs., 107.50. Medium frame 2, 20 head, 57 lbs., 102.00 gaunt. Date:1/26/06
