Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 18, reported 3,600 head, compared to 6,300 head last week and 5,425 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at Wyoming auctions sold steady to $2 lower, and heifers sold steady. Demand was moderate to good. In the direct trade not enough feeder steers and heifers for good price comparison. Direct trade was slow. Demand and inquiry were moderate. Offerings were light. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. The supply included 42% steers, 58% heifers, with 58% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 720 head of the total receipts.
