St. Onge livestock sales news

The St. Onge Livestock Sales, Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,187 head Feb. 17, compared to 373 head last week and 1,935 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Trends were not applicable on feeders, since it has been several weeks since any large numbers sold, although a higher undertone was noted on most weights offered, particularly on the lighter fleshed grass-type cattle. Weigh-up cattle are scarce due to the below zero temperature. Feeder receipts included 48% steers and 52% heifers, with 65% over 600 pounds. The offering included 94% feeders and replacement heifers, 3% breeding bulls and the balance was weigh to up cows, bred cows, and roping cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 8 head, 487 to 489 lbs., 152.00 to 153.00 (152.37) value enhanced; 13 head, 562 to 565 lbs., 139.00 to 141.50 (140.54); 14 head, 618 to 625 lbs., 125.50 to 128.50 (126.58); 21 head, 611 lbs., 132.00 calves; 678 to 696 lbs., 114.00 to 115.25 (115.14); 34 head, 666 lbs., 121.25 value enhanced; 69 head, 757 lbs., 118.50 fleshy; 14 head, 828 lbs., 103.50; 92 head, 842 lbs., 107.00 full; 11 head, 816 lbs., 106.50 value enhanced. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 548 lbs., 132.00; 570 to 584 lbs., 128.00 to 129.00 (128.90); 17 head, 676 lbs., 113.00; 778 to 798 lbs., 105.75 to 106.00 (105.79).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 12 head, 405 to 436 lbs., 142.00 to 145.00 (143.96); 469 to 498 lbs., 139.00 to 141.00 (140.33); 502 to 524 lbs., 136.50 to 140.00 (137.81); 534 to 545 lbs., 134.00 to 140.00 (135.87) replacement; 550 to 598 lbs., 122.00 to 129.50 (125.88); 7 head, 649 lbs., 121.75; 600 to 642 lbs., 119.50 to 124.00 (121.04) calves; 611 to 620 lbs., 125.00 to 127.00 (125.63) replacement; 661 to 683 lbs., 118.10 to 118.50 (118.14); 9 head, 725 lbs., 106.50; 13 head, 761 lbs., 100.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 560 to 593 lbs., 120.00 to 120.50 (120.24).

Slaughter cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1080 to 1125 lbs., 51.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 55.50; low dressing, 42.50.

Feeder cows: Large frame 1, 1420 to 1540 lbs., 59.00; full 55.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1000 to 1370 lbs 57.50 to 58.50, full 53.00 to 54.00.
